How to play Choppers
Main tools:play the loop, play the drop shot or short push, and, most importantly the smash.

  • Know in advance the racket surface of each defender and have a plan for that defence
  • Be very patient,
  • Pay special attention to the spin of their shot,
  • Attack the middle of the table,
  • Move the choppers in and out, not side to side
  • Make frequent use of drop shots and pushes
  • Let the depth and height of choppers' returns dictate the aggressiveness,
  • Recognize traps (if two or three power shots finish on the net or out change to a push instead)
  • Neutralize choppers' attacks.
Tip: How to increase your table tennis forehand looping power?
If you are the type of player who has trouble generating power when looping, try out these two tips, and you'll be surprised at the improvement.
First, keep your legs farther apart. Second, contact the ball more from your side.
By following these two tips, you'll automatically put more body weight into the shot. If your basic technique is roughly correct but you don't have good power, these two steps will probably be a huge help.

How to play Loopers
Very difficult to play against. Best way to beat: take them off their game, use aggressiveness to beat aggressiveness.

  • Initiate the offensive, serve short then attack first on the third ball,
  • Do not push to often, they are very comfortable with this shot,
  • Play frequently to loopers' middle. They are strong in the wings but not in the middle.
  • When forced to block do not block too passively, this allows them to establish a tough rythm.

How to play Blockers
Blockers are similar to choppers their defensive style. They are patient volleyers who work diligently and purposefully to move you out of position and make force errors.

  • Do not let them establish a rythm, loop one hard and deep then counter, then loop soft.
  • Try only one power shot at a time, if he returns this shot then play next ball safely.
  • As with the chopper, be patient .Blockers are usually poor at intiating an attack.
  • Force or trick blockers to initiate the attack some of the time.

How to play Counterdrivers
Counterdrivers are very skillful both forehand and backhand counterdrives and each at same percentage of time.

  • Avoid topspin
  • Use underspin whenever possible, this will slow down the rallies and take them away from topspinning game.
  • Working the middle of counterdrivers often is the key to beat them.
  • Use heavyspin, counterdrivers are most relaxed with lightspin.

How to play "junk rubbers"
Playing opponents with junk rubbers (e.g., long pips or antispin) is typically frustrating and the main issue here is unpredictability in judging the type and the amount of spin the ball has or any return of a given shot.

  • Opposite shots have opposite spins. The opponent chops your counterdrive and it will return with underspin.
  • Similar shots have opposite spins. If he counters your counterdrive it will come back with opposite spin, underspin.
  • Long pimples cannot produce much spin on their own What might look as deep topspin serve may have slight topspin or even slight underspin on it.
  • Lightly spun loops and pushes are very effective against long pimples.
